What is CIF?
CIF (Cost, Insurance and Freight) is an international trade term that refers to the price of goods. Includes insurance and shipping costs to the destination port. Thailand uses the CIF value as the basis for calculating customs duties on all imported goods.
CIF stands for Cost (product price) + Insurance (insurance cost) + Freight (shipping cost). It is the value used as the base for calculating customs duties in Thailand. The Customs Department will use the CIF value multiplied by the duty rate to get the amount of duty to be paid.
How do you calculate insurance costs if you don't have a receipt?
If there is no separate insurance fee can be estimated as 0.5%-1% of the product price (Cost). The Customs Department may use a standard estimate of 1% of the FOB price in cases where the importer is unable to provide evidence.
How is FOB different from CIF?
FOB (Free On Board) = Product price at the port of origin. Shipping and insurance are not included. CIF = FOB + international shipping + insurance. Thailand uses the CIF value as the import tax base.
If the product comes by air What are the shipping costs?
Air freight costs are based on the actual value paid to the airline or shipping company. which is often much higher than by boat It must also be included in the CIF to calculate customs duties.
