The criteria used by this tool
This tool assesses child support according to Revenue share approach. The income shares model, which is the method used by Thai courts as a guideline:
- Total income of both parents.
- Estimate child expenses by proportion of total income (approximately 25% for 1 people, 35% for 2 people, 40% for 3 people)
- Divide the payments according to the income of each party.
Calculations
- Total revenue = revenue of the 1 + revenue of the 2
- Total support = total income x proportion of children
- Proportion of the party to 1 = revenue of the party to 1 ÷ total revenue
- The share of the party 1 paid = total maintenance × the share of the party 1
example
Dad earns 40,000 baht/month, mom earns 20,000 baht/month, have 2 children.
- Total revenue = 40,000 + 20,000 = 60,000 baht
- Total maintenance costs = 60,000 × 35% = 21,000 baht
- Child support = 21,000 ÷ 2 = 10,500 baht
- The father's share = 21,000 × (40,000/60,000) = 14,000 baht
- Mother's share = 21,000 × (20,000/60,000) = 7,000 baht
