Shift Work Hours Calculator

The Shift Work Hours Calculator estimates a general arithmetic estimate for your scenario from the quantities, rates, period, units and other assumptions requested on the page. Replace the example values with your own shift work hours figures and recalculate after changing an assumption. Use it to compare scenarios, then verify any current rate or fee before acting.

Enter the start-end time of the break, the number of breaks per week, and the number of weeks to calculate the total working hours.

If it ends after midnight, the system will automatically calculate the overnight.

Formula used for calculation

  • Hours per shift (total) = End Time - Start Time (plus 24 hours if overnight shift)
  • Hours per day (net) = Hours per day - Rest time (minutes ÷ 60)
  • Hours per week = Hours per day × Days per week
  • Hours per month = Hours per week × 4
  • Total hours = Hours per week × Number of weeks
