Freight Transport Cost Calculator

The Freight Transport Cost Calculator estimates a health and body estimate for your scenario from the quantities, rates, period, units and other assumptions requested on the page. Replace the example values with your own shipping bills figures and recalculate after changing an assumption. Treat it as a planning estimate and independently verify the current rule or provider terms.

Fill in weight, size and distance to compare freight costs between truck, rail and coastal ships, showing the cost of the cheapest and fastest option.

Volumetric weight = length × width × height ÷ 6,000 | CBM = length × width × height ÷ 1,000,000

The approximate distance, for example, Bangkok–Chiang Mai ≈ 700 km. Bangkok–Surasadthani ≈ 650 km.

How to calculate freight costs

  • Volumetric weight (road/rail) = length x width x height (cm) ÷ 6,000
  • Volume CBM (shipping) = Length × Width × Height (cm) ÷ 1,000,000
  • Shipping weight = the greater of actual weight and volume weight.
  • Freight charge = Rate per kilograms/CBM × Weight charged shipping (by distance and mode of transportation)
  • Fuel Surcharge / BAF: Truck ~8%, Rail ~5%, Ship ~10%
  • Insurance fee: approximately 0.1–0.15% of the value of the goods

Frequently asked questions

What is the volumetric weight for transportation?
Volumetric weight = width x length x height (cm) ÷ 6,000 For road and rail transportation, shipment is calculated by CBM (cubic metres). The carrier will charge the freight on the basis of actual weight or volumetric weight, whichever is greater.
What's the cheapest way to ship heavy goods?
For heavy and non-urgent goods, rail is usually the lowest cost per kilograms. Coastal ships are suitable for large volumes of goods between ports.
What is the Fuel Surcharge?
The Fuel Surcharge (BAF) is an additional charge that transport providers charge to compensate for the fluctuating cost of fuel. The rate varies by mode of transport.
Is the price shown the final price?
Prices shown are estimates based on industry averages. Actual prices may vary depending on the provider, volume, transportation contract, type of goods and additional charges such as lift charges, full insurance. Please request a quote directly from the provider.

How to use the Freight Transport Cost Calculator

Use this page to test a specific shipping bills scenario. Enter your own values in the calculator above, review the units beside each field, and recalculate after changing an assumption. The result updates the freight transport cost estimate instead of relying on a generic example.

  1. Build a baseline shipping bills case with figures that match your situation.
  2. Run a second shipping bills case after changing the rate, period, quantity or other key assumption.
  3. Record the difference between the two shipping bills results and the input responsible for it.

Inputs for the shipping bills estimate

For this shipping bills calculation, check the quantities, rates, period, units and other assumptions requested on the page. The result is designed to show a health and body estimate for your scenario, not a guaranteed provider price or official decision.

How the shipping bills result is calculated

The calculator applies the page-specific measurement relationship to the personal values you enter. Reusing the same shipping bills inputs will produce the same estimate, which makes the page suitable for controlled scenario comparisons.

Checks for a shipping bills decision

Confirm any current rate, threshold or provider rule that could change the final amount. For shipping bills, Use the estimate to plan a household or service cost. Actual charges can differ because of provider tariffs, minimum fees, taxes, location and billing-period adjustments. Because this calculation can affect an important financial, legal or health decision, independently verify the inputs and current rules before relying on the result.
